Really A Smart Pill…. Or Just Another Energy Pill (cleverly disguised)

energy_productsIt’s cool, eye-catching, sexy, & claims to be the greatest thing since sliced bread! This is the magic bullet that you’ve been waiting for – the answer to all your problems. Oh wait, it’s just another energy pill……. Smh

Energy pills and supplements have been around for many years. However, the progression of the smart pill or nootropic is fairly new. Nootropics can either be natural or pharmaceutical substances that have been documented or believed to increase and improve cognitive function. Refer to our blog on Nootropics here for more info. Supplements such as Ginkgo Biloba and St. John’s Wart have been used for decades as stand-alone nootropic products. Recently more products have flooded the market containing a “stack” or combination of other nootropics blended together. Some of the companies that promote these products, put stacks together that lack any real evidence of the potency and desired results that users expect. Some even deliver side effects that do the exact opposite of what the product claims.

Energy pills, drinks, shots, powders, etc. are designed to do essentially one thing – give you energy. When the afternoon hits and tiredness kicks in, energy supplements can do their job. That is provided they don’t give you a crash only an hour or so later. This is one of the biggest complaints of energy supplements mostly due to their poor ingredients. It’s no secret that most of these products are loaded with sugar, caffeine and other stimulants that are meant to give you a quick pick me up only to leave you feeling worse than before. Just look at the recent news to see story after story of problems people of all ages have reported. The high sugar content, toxic chemicals, and artificial ingredients in these products have caused many negative side effects such as headaches, jitters, heart palpitations, dizziness, insomnia, weight gain, seizures, and even death (sounds great doesn’t it?). Some of these products claim to help with focus and brain power but a closer look at their ingredients reveals it’s just a clever disguise. One such energy shot company just recently changed their marketing to say “this this for focus.” Unfortunately most of the these products are owned by the bigger companies which dominate the market and would rather cut corners just to make a fast buck than really care about the customer.

How would you like to get energy without the jitters whiling still getting better focus, improved memory and clearer thinking with healthy ingredients that won’t break the bank? That’s exactly where nootropics come in. If a product has high quality, researched ingredients at their effective dosages at an affordable price, then you’ve got your hands on a winner. After all, what good is an energy supplement that makes you bounce off the walls but you can’t get anything done? That’s where smart pills come in and specifically BrainKrave® is the answer that you’ve been looking for. Fortified with the best of the best science back ingredients and results that you can feel, it’s the perfect nootropic for students, athletes, people in the working world and anyone that cares about their health.

Phosphatidylserine – Ingredient #2

Holy smokes that’s a big word! Let’s sound it like in elementary school now Phos-pha-ti-dyl-ser-ine. Wasn’t so bad. This impressive sounding name has a reason to because what it does for our brain is incredible.

Phosphatidylserine is a fat soluble phospholipid located in the cell membrane’s lipid bilayer. Every cell in the body has it and it’s critical for the brain to operate effectively. Scientists have found that this chemical has two important roles. The first is its ability to regenerate brain cells membranes. Secondly, it can increase acetylcholine in the brain. Acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter that’s key for memory and recovering lost information as our brains age. Scientists believe that as the brain ages, its phospholipids decrease which leads to a decline in memory and cognitive functions. Research has demonstrated that by adding phosphatidylserine supplements to your diet, some of the detrimental effects that aging has on the brain can be replenished. It is commonly used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s patients. There have been over 3,000 studies and trials on phosphatidylserine where users have noticed improved memory and brain function, information rentention and concentration.

Athletes may also find phosphatidylserine to be a useful tool in their arsenal to blunt cortisol release after heavy exercise. After strenuous exercise, the body produces elevated cortisol levels which act to counteract the athletes’ goal to build muscle mass. Adding phosphatidylserine can help them recover more quickly.

People can get phosphatidylserine from eating foods like chicken, soybeans, egg yolk, and beef liver (yum). However, even if sufficient amounts of these foods were eating, most of the chemical is poorly absorbed in the body due to the effects of aging and the stress on the gastrointestinal tract. The solution to this is to consume the supplement form which mostly comes from soybeans or other plant sources such as cabbage. The therapeutic dosage for phosphatidylserine is around 100 mg two to three times a day.

No need to worry because BrainKrave® contains the plenty of phosphatidylserine to make an impact on your brain! If you’re worried about it being sourced from soy, no need to be. Our phosphatidylserine is derived from plant sources so you can rest assured. Rather than spend money on other supplements, why not just get it from BrainKrave®? After all, you’re getting a whole bunch of other super ingredients (18 others to be exact) in each capsule as well. Talk about a bang for your buck!

How To Pick the Best Brain Supplement

Full Ingredients List

This is one of the best ways to determine if a brain supplement is the real deal or just another gimmick to take your hard earned dollars. Companies can make all the claims in the world about how their supplement gives you insane focus, energy, quick thinking, etc. but what really matters is what’s in it. Does is it really contain the right substances that help your brain’s health and performance that’s actually backed by third party studies and science or is it just a bunch of caffeine and stimulants that get your wired up only to crash afterwards?

Look for the core ingredients such as vitamins, amino acids, and, nootropics that have been shown to improve your brain’s performance. Look for ingredients that contain the RDAs (Recommended Daily Allowances) or enough to have a beneficial effect felt by your body.

Proprietary Blend, Good or Bad?

What the heck does this mean? A proprietary blend listed on a products Supplement Facts panel is product’s formula that’s specific to the manufacturer. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. It’s bad if the company is just trying to mask what’s really in their product by just using a majority of simulants and just “fairy dusting” the rest. Fairy dusting is when a company just puts in a little amount of a beneficial ingredient just to say it’s in their product but not enough to really have an measurable effect.

On the other hand, companies may use “Proprietary Blend”, especially if it’s a new company, as way to not give their competitors a road map as to what their formula is. Particularly if the company is filing for a patent which is an expensive process. Ingredients are typically listed in order of their quantity in the formula from highest to lowest amount.

Price

Do you want quantity or quality, a Ferrari or a Pinto? When it comes to supplements you either get what you pay for or you end up paying for nothing but an expensive marketing gimmick. A higher price usually means that the ingredients used in the supplement are high quality and in higher demand which drives up the product’s price. Nootropic ingredients can get pretty pricey such as Huperzine A and racetams. Also whether the product contains pharmaceutical grade, natural and organic ingredients are also an influencing factors. Taking into consideration the ingredients as well as dosage/servings (described below) a range of anywhere from $30 to $70 is ideal for a 1 or 2 month supply.

Dosage/Servings

This is a critical but often a misunderstood part of the brain product process. Dosage and serving size is precisely tied to the price. A bottle of pills that appears to cost only $30 with a serving size of 2-4 pills a day actually means you will end up paying over $100 a month when it should only cost less than half. Most products out there that are marketed as being a 1 month supply are in reality a 2 week supply when you break the numbers down. Smart pills are designed to work over time for best results because they help build the brain rather than rely on just stimulants.

Product Reviews

Sometimes it’s best to get advice, as long as its quality and credible. A wise person once asked, “who do you listen to in life?” Makes sense because if you buy into someone’s opinion, you buy into their lifestyle. Take a look at what users have to say on sites like Amazon, eBay, and other online sellers in addition to the company’s site and testimonials. If a company issues a disclaimer saying they use real people and not actors then that’s a good sign. Also check out their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media pages to see what people are saying about them live.

A word of caution is to be very careful about websites that claim to be “third-party”, “honest”, and “non-biased” where they exist to give “reviews” on companies products. While they claim not be affiliated with any companies and they exists only to provide a role to look out for the consumer, the brutal truth is many are scammers. In reality, they are the companies selling the products themselves that either own the websites or are paying the website to advertise for their product. We looked at a few of these sites (wolves in sheep’s clothing) and it is blatantly apparent. When they talk highly about a product with links to buy it on their site and it’s loaded with garbage ingredients as well as other sources and users are talking negatively about it on the web, the BS alarm rings loud and hard. No names mentioned but we’d be happy to provide a list if asked.

Huperzine A – Ingredient Snapshot # 1

HUPERZINE-A

We’ll start this series with Huperzine A, one of the superstar ingredients used in BrainKrave® for its amazing brain boosting abilities. Huperzine A comes from the plant Chinese club moss. It has been used for thousands of years in Chinese traditional medicine. It’s commonly used as a nootropic because of its ability to support and enhance memory and brain function. Huperzine A works by blocking the enzyme cholinesterase which breaks down the memory chemical acetylcholine. As we age, our brain produces less acetylcholine which can lead to memory loss. It’s noted that Alzheimer’s and dementia patients have significantly low levels of acetylcholine. Therefore, if we keep our acetylcholine levels up, our brains can function more optimally.

Some studies have even shown that Huperzine A may outperform the drugs given to Alzheimer’s patients when taking a longer time period and have noticed less side effects. A study displayed improved memory and thinking abilities in Alzheimer’s patients after 8 weeks of using Huperzine A.

Huperzine A’s effects become even more powerful when stacked with Choline, Bacopa, and Phosphatidylserine to help maintain healthy acetylcholine levels. It’s not by accident that BrainKrave® just so happens to contain all four of these ingredients! Of course when using Huperzine A, it has to be at the right dosage and at the right grade. The recommended dosage for improvement in memory skills is 100 mcg or 0.100 mg. 1 serving (1 pill) of BrainKrave® contains much more than that! Also the Huperzine A we use is pharmaceutical grade which means it’s the highest quality rating for supplements. The purity, dissolution, and absorption all meet the highest regulatory standards set forth by the industry. We don’t cut corners or skimp on costs. When we say we put the customer first, we mean every bit of it and we always will!
